Has anyone seen this movie yet? I saw it last night and it both made me want to vomit and laugh at the same time. GO OUT AND SEE IT. The thing that sucked was, I had just eaten this huge Mexican meal, and watching this movie made me want to force-puke it all up. I don't really eat fast food because it makes me feel gross after, but seeing this movie definitely makes you want to make some changes. Like, when I get off my computer I'm definitely going to work out like crazy. I'm also never drinking Coke again. which I dont drink often either, but still. How harmful do you think coffee is? That's my biggest question. I'm like a 20-oz a day at Starbucks type person - I'm pretty addicted. After seeing the movie I went out and...there was this unfortunate accident...

Super Size Me Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock eats all his meals at McDonald's for a month for his documentary "Super Size Me." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By James Greenberg PARK CITY -- Following in the footsteps of Michael Moore's work, "Super Size Me" is one of the new generation of documentaries in which the filmmaker becomes the subject. In this case, director Morgan Spurlock had the bright idea that he would eat at McDonald's three meals a day for a month and see what happens. The outcome is not a pretty picture, but thanks to Spurlock's oversized and buoyant personality and some pretty nifty filmmaking, the results are as entertaining as they are sobering. Spurlock got started on his journey, which took him to 20 cities, after seeing a news story in which two teenage girls were suing McDonald's, blaming fast food for their obesity. The question of personal responsibility versus corporate responsibility is a central issue in the film, with corporate deceit taking more of a beating. If the docu has a shortcoming, it is it's failure to acknowledge that all obesity is not the result of eating junk food. But a lot of it is in this country, which Spurlock notes is the fattest nation in the world with 100 million overweight people, 60% of whom get no exercise. Spurlock manages to cram in lots of alarming facts and stats with the smart and amusing use of animation and music. For instance, a colorful map of Manhattan sprouts flags indicating each of the 83 McDonald's locations on the 14-mile island. Later, over a split screen of smiley Ronald McDonald commercials, Curtis Mayfield sings the classic "Pusher Man." Spurlock starts out the picture of health, a strapping 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds. Three doctors and a nutritionist, who reappear throughout, examine him and attest to his well being. But within a few days he's vomiting out of the window of his car. And it's downhill from there. Spurlock's body goes through a general deterioration that surprises even his doctors in its rapidity. (His girlfriend, a vegan chef, is beside herself.) Gaining weight is just the outward sign: His liver becomes toxic, his cholesterol skyrockets, his libido sags, he gets headaches and becomes depressed. In between the daily journal of his gorging, often with supersize portions of Big Macs, fries and soda, Spurlock interviews people on the street, the U.S. surgeon general and a lobbyist for the fast-food industry. Not surprisingly, reps from McDonald's do not return dozens of calls requesting an interview. One of the most distressing stops along the way is at a school in Illinois where kids are fed pizza, soda and sweets to their hearts' content. The real value of "Super Size Me" may be as a cautionary tale for kids. It's lively and funny enough to hold their attention while delivering an important message.

Six weeks after this film premiered at Sundance, McDonalds pulled its supersize option from the menu, because they were scared shitless of the bad publicity from this film, which was bad enough as it is.
So for those of you who say that one person can't make a difference...
And you know what? This film got me thinking about what awesome parents I have. Sure, we've had our ups and downs, but when I was a kid I wasn't allowed to eat fast food, soda, candy, or sugar cereal. I had to drink milk with dinner. I didn't even try to order a Coke in a restaurant because I knew my mom wouldn't let me. I thought I was so deprived and I hated them for it. But you know what? Because they made me eat good stuff, I dont have a taste for junk food really. I eat lots of fruits and vegetables as an adult. I cook vegetables and fish for myself, because that's what we always had. I may only occasionally have Oreos or McDonalds very very rarely. I hate parents who say "but my kids wont' eat vegetables." That's why you fuckin start them eating them when they're babies. you don't give them other options like junk food, and they're hungry so they'll eat what you give them.
For example, my 2 year old nephew. He's never had anything but veggies, fruit and protein, so that's all he asks for. He LOVES fruit. If he sees you eating a pear, he'll toddle up to you and want some. It's not that hard to figure out. Leading by example is also another underrated parenting concept. Kids watch what you do from a very very early age. My parents didn't put up gates or safety stuff (Except for thingies on the cabinets so he didnt get into the cleaning supplies, and covers over the sockets) cuz they said, we are always there, we keep the basement door shut and he knows not to go down there. I had my doubts, because it's hard to remember to always shut that door when you come upstairs. So one time, I see that the door is slightly open, and I go running ahead of my nephew to shut it. But even before I get there, he's there, and guess what he does...he SHUTS THE DOOR! He remembered that the door is always shut, and thats the way it's supposed to be. He didn't even try to see what was down there.
But my point is....it's actually sad that any human is capable of reproducing. Like Adam Carolla says, "why do I need a permit to put a new deck on my house...but there's no permit to raise a kid?" My point being...I think parents who are letting their 3 year olds have Coke with dinner should be shot.

im gonna have to give that a look. Ive heard about though. why would he torture himself like that? he could have died. he actually almost did die. By the end of week 1, he had gained 10 pounds. Thats in a fuckin week, which is really really bad for you. By 20 days (his diet was for 30 days) his doctors told him he was poisoning his liver in a way they had only seen from serious alcoholics. He was actually having chest pains and dizziness, and his doctors told him that if he had shooting pains or numbness in his arms, that it was life-threatening and to get to a hospital immediately. They were telling him that if he stayed on the diet much longer, he'd probably poison himself to death. They were all floored at how quickly a healthy guy like that got so sick. But anyway, I'm giving it away now...

Wow that's disturbing. I've recently given myself a 'lifestyle change' and have finally started eating healthy and I must say - love it. I still love sweets, but when I eat too much now it seriously hurts my stomach, therefore, I don't eat it. I love it when my body rejects bad stuff! Makes me feel healthy, lol.
