actually....no. I was inquiring of the literates on the board what you are reading lately.
Right now, I am reading "The Devil's Highway" by Luis Urrea, who writes a lot of non-fiction on the Mexican/U.S. border. This one is about border walkers and the smugglers paid to get them across. When I'm done, I plan on getting to the new David Sedaris. Can't wait!

I'm currently reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Friggin' huge. I am almost done now though. This is about the events of the wars following those of the Warring States period in China; I believe it's called the Three Kingdoms era.

I just finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Now I'm back to reading Memnock the Devil by Anne Rice. I also have a couple Chuck books to read, the Matrix book, more Anne Rice novels, and a book called Sorceress, which is a sequel to Witch Child
Needless to say I should be reading those and not typing on here...

For Summer, lounging around reading, I am about to start James Patterson's Suzanne's Letters to Nicholas. I love to read the Alex Cross series by him and waiting for the new one.
As for enlighting the mind, I am re-reading Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman and after that will start The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living by the Dalai Lama.

I have not heard that he has a new one, but if he does, I'm on that shit. Did my numerous Epictetus quotes inspire you to read that? Roman stoic philospohy, baby, it doesn't get much better. Unless I eat the Motts, Sedaris has his new book out. I am currently reading three collections of poetry: Animal Soul by Bob Hicok. I'm almost done and its genious, pure genius. I'd have his babies. Book of My Nights by Li-Young Lee. This guy is one of the best Asian poets to have graced America with their presence. Dogs Dream of Running by John Lehman. Very good contemporary poetry. Its autographed, but its addressed to the neighbor who gave it to me. It makes me sad, like my neighbor is better than me.

The new book is called Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. It's more stories of his childhood. Don't worry, I didn't know about it either until I saw it on my sister's kitchen table last weekend and went, "what the.....am I the last to know?"

I thought it had to be newer than 'Naked' because I have read 'Naked' and I am the last to know everything. Thanks, El. I am over to Amazon. com right now to be the proud purchaser of 'Dress Your Family in Clothes that I Forgot Already.'

I want to start reading Chuck Pahlaniuk. What book do you suggest I start out with? Wow.... That's a good one. I think out of the 3 or 4 I've read I really liked Survivor because it was so fucked up. I liked Choke also. But I liked Survivor more. And Fight Club is of course good. But if you've seen the movie you'll compare it. Its still good. But I'd start with Survivor! lol (Ramble much? Dang me)

About chuck palahniuk, I think fight club would be best to read first, to get used to his style. Survivor was my favorite, but invisible monsters was good too. And choke. I didn't like Diary much though, so I wouldn't recommend that one.

I will have you all know that today I did in fact purchase the new Sedaris and started reading it on the train ride home. Let me read you all an excerpt so that you will be envious and go out and get your own copy:
From the chapter entitled "Let It Snow":
"Hey!" we yelled. "Open the door, it's us." We knocked on teh pane, and without looking in our direction, she refilled her goblet and left the room. "That bitch," my sister Lisa said. We pounded again and again, and when our mother failed to answer we went around back and threw snowballs at her bedroom window. "You are going to be in so much trouble when Dad gets home!" we shouted, and in response my mother pulled the drapes. Dusk approached, and as it grew colder it occurred to us that we could possibly die. It happened, surely. Selfish mothers wanted the house to themselves, and their children were discovered years later, frozen like mastodons in blocks of ice. "One of us should get hit by a car," I said. "That would teach the both of them." I pictured Gretchen, her life hanging by a thread as my parents paced the halls of Rex Hospital, wishing they had been more attentive. It was really the perfect solution. With her out of the way, the rest of us woudl be more valuable and have a bit more room to spread out. "Gretchen, go lie in the street." "Make Amy do it," she said. Amy in turn, pushed it off onto Tiffany, who was the youngest and had no concept of death. "It's like sleeping," we told her. "Only you get a canopy bed."

I stopped reading last year. I am a whore.
I do like a good Patterson or Sanford book. Fuck the real-life shit. I have enough real-life in my real-life. Life.

Speaking of Sedaris' live album, he reads a story about his sister's (not Amy, Lisa I believe) parrot. I hope this story is in the new book.
FYI ----- In that very parrot story, David talks about a movie about his family. The only thing I can remember about it is that the director is Japanese or Chinese. It seemed important to David and Lisa at the time.
And FA!, I haven't had much time to read with this new J-oh-B, except for 401k's and insurance breakdowns and rundowns and ho-downs.
I've read Diary. It was aight. Just aight.
Everybody needs to go to the local bookstore, find a friendly employee and ask said emp. to find him/her a copy of Alan Lightman's Einstein's Dreams.
I met Mr. Lightman when I was roughly 15. At the time, I was more concerned with BOOBS and VAGINAS and CLASS TRIPS TO EUREKA COLLEGE to understand that a geniOus was speaking to our class, but years later I acknowledge the err.
Thank the friendly employee after purchase.
